Zylo Eyewear

Syros, Greece

If anyone can breathe life into a pair of sunglasses it’s Eleni Vakondiou and Periklis Therrios, founders of Zylo Eyewear. From their workshop on the Greek isle of Syros, the two partners expertly refine and shape wood into handcrafted artifacts that double as fashion accessories, shading your eyes from the sun’s glare brilliantly.

ZYLO sunglasses feature wooden frames made from oak, zebrawood, rosewood, walnut, maple, bubinga, plane, purpleheart (yes, it’s purple!), and modenia. The replaceable lenses are from Knecht & Müller AG Swiss Technology.

As Eleni and Periklis put it: “We believe that wood is alive; it lives with us and changes over time.” For that reason, they make their own salve out of white beeswax and pure olive oil to protect their wooden sunglasses, lighten the grain, and create a satin-like surface. Every pair of sunglasses comes with a 5 ml. supply of the salve…and a lifetime guarantee.
